Alone In The Wilderness

Only parts of an absolutely amazing film, Alone In The Wilderness. Worth finding the whole thing.

  1. Yeah, ive seen those vids like 67 times, at least and i never ever get fed up. If u compare modern day commercialized wilderness/bushcraft celebrities, to works of Dick, theyre so modest. Ray Mears & co, might have wider knowledge of various skills, tricks etc, to show to us, but Proennekes stay, out there, still overrules all the modern day heroes 6-0. No, he didnt play with bowdrill, or carry a paracord bracelet, nor did he use specific bushcraft gear, but somehow, i think most of the bushcraft guys we adore, would not be capable to live pretty damn much off the land like Dick did.

  2. Very true. It's quite obvious that he was already immensely skilled long before he went out there. I suspect he grew up on a farm in the depression, was probably in the war, etc. The respect he is accorded and the popularity of these videos might be a hint for the producers of Man vs. Stupidity that low-key, quiet scenes of a man using his skills and ingenuity and perseverance to be comfortable in very remote regions is far more impressive than idiotic stuntman behaviour.
