Makeshift is a new magazine that celebrates people making things with what they have. DIY or maker culture, call it what you will, exists all over the world. Especially in areas of scarcity, that creative spirit is often strongest. Human ingenuity knows no bounds.

That was a cool vid they have on their website. You should have seen the talented folks I met at Saskatoon Circle this last week. Weavers, potters, beaders, tanners, etc. Lots of talent there. Wish I had some. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteWhat's Saskatoon Circle? Is it something to do with the most perfectly bordered Canadian province?
ReplyDeleteTry your hand at something and you'll get good at it.
Saskatoon Circle is a primitive skills gathering. I went to Rabbitstick last year and had a blast but couldn't make it this year--so I went to SC which is near Methow, Washington. If you google SC you'll see pics from last year--I don't think the photos from this year are up yet. I took tracking, friction fire, Bedouin-style hand weaving, pine needle basketry, to name a few classes. It was very interesting.
ReplyDeleteSounds very interesting. Bit far for me to go. Maybe there are things like this near my end of the continent.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there are. There were quite a few of our brothers & sisters from the North who were there teaching and attending.
