Putting the Gulf Oil Disaster Into Perspective

We all know it’s a catastrophe of epic proportions.

But trying to wrap your head around the magnitude of it all is difficult.

This link is fascinating on a few levels. It shows the heights and depths of our planet. But more pertinently it shows just how deep the well head is.

And this one shows the extent of the oil spill in relation to where you live.

Yikes.

  1. Does put things into perspective. Bodies of water are so large that many things seem small in comparison until you compare them with something on the mainland people are more familiar with.

But I'm still quite hopeful. This spill is about 1/4th according to estimates when compared to the 1979 spill we had here.

PS: I'm in Florida. I have friends all along the Gulf Coast. Not as much is washing ashore as the news and other media outlets are claiming.
