Japanese knifemaker Harumi Hirayama, who deviates from the usual custom knife maker tendency to make either tactical, bushcraft or oddball fantasy knives, with some delightfully whimsical pieces.
A friend found Custom Folding Knives (http://www.amazon.com/Custom-Folding-Knives-David-Darom/dp/8854401277) in a used bookstore - every page is a delight - but her work just stood out. There are some really stellar makers in there - Dr. Fred Carter, Henry H. Frank, several others, but her stuff was just so refreshingly different. The owls too are really nice. No reason why your pocket knife can't bring a smile to your face.
Cool! I'll have to see if I can find that one. I'm going to take a "Knife Building 101" class this fall. It will be a drop-point skinner...maybe I can incorporate some whimsical stuff to it. Now if I could just get motivated to do some sewing...
I have to admit...you do find some of the coolest stuff. The cat one where it's cradling the whale? Priceless.
