Sounding absolutely nothing whatsoever like the original, I recall reading somewhere that Richard James would often not even bother with a single element of the original track and just put out whatever he felt like. Essentially an original Aphex Twin track, rather than a remix. As if the title of the record this came out on, 26 Mixes For Cash wasn’t evidence enough of his cheekiness.

Got this on a tape (seems like ancient tech now) just before I went to S.E.A. While in Sumatra I left in the middle of the night to climb to the top of a volcano. Sitting there with my Walkman (more ancient tech) on, listening to this tune as the sun rose – incredible memories.

While ostensibly “cold” electronic music, I find a lot of what Richard James creates to be some of the most emotionaly rich music I’ve ever heard. This just evokes such great memories for me. I brought a few tapes with me travelling around in South East Asia in 1993, one of which was a tape that a friend gave me just before I left. This was one of the tracks on there. Heading out in the middle of the night to climb to the top of a volcano in central Sumatra, getting to the top and being greeted by an amazing view, clouds swirling around, by myself, enjoying a delicious post climb aperitif, and listening to this. Oh yeah!
