Patchery: Kraftwerk Trans Europe Express

Rendezvous on Champs Elysées
Leave Paris in the morning with T.E.E.
Trans... Europe... Express...

The patch on the right was one I did about a half year ago. Made it too small and there was too much infill. Learning as I go. Went back and opened areas up to avoid that, and made it larger.

Now I have myself a Kraftwerk patch!

S.o.t.D. - The Model – Big Black

The Model – Big Black

Today’s song of the day is taken from the charmingly entitled Songs About Fucking, and is a cover of the charming “The Model” by Kraftwerk.

S.o.t.D. - Techno Pop – Kraftwerk

Techno Pop – Kraftwerk

Brilliant. I can still recall how this album, and more specifically, this track techno popped my world in 86. You could grumble about scant and infrequent output from them, but upon hearing some of the sounds and catchy bits and production they put into this, it sated. The part a half minute in...hhmmmhhh.

S.o.t.D. - The Telephone Call – Kraftwerk

The Telephone Call – Kraftwerk

A lot of people would go back in time to kill Hitler when he was still a private. I would go back in time to see Kraftwerk on their Computer World tour. Then I’d get back in the time machine, find that shitlicker and kill him. I’d just want to make sure I got to see Kraftwerk live first, cause you never know how affecting the past might affect the future. Killing Hitler might lead to a future without Kraftwerk. Which would be terrible. But at least I would have seen them live.

S.o.t.D. - Trouble Funk Express – Trouble Funk

Trouble Funk Express – Trouble Funk

Cover of/sampling of/appropriation of/reworking of Kraftwerk’s seminal and oh so very fantastic Trans Europe Express.

Sort of surprised to find out that Ian MacKaye and Henry Rollins are big fans of these fellow DCers.

S.o.t.D. - Numbers/Computer World – Kraftwerk

Numbers/Computer World – Kraftwerk

Okay, last one. My brain was fundamentally changed by this album. Especially that part where it transitions into Computer World. Mmwwaaahhhhh.......

S.o.t.D. - Metropolis – Kraftwerk

Metropolis – Kraftwerk

One of the most influential musical acts ever, the great Kraftwerk of course, have been nominated for inclusion in the Rock & Roll Hal of Fame. Incredibly un-rock & roll, but given how far their influence reaches, I think they deserve the honour.

S.o.t.D. - Das Model – Kraftwerk

Das Model – Kraftwerk

Seeing as how the predominant media where I lived seemed to think rock & roll with all of its inherent cliches was the only thing worth exposing people to, getting to see this video completely blew me away. That whole live set up they had was so cool, and so different.

S.o.t.D. – Trans Europe Express – Kraftwerk

Trans Europe Express – Kraftwerk

Can’t believe I haven’t had the mighty, mighty Kraftwerk on here before. I heard this as a kid on the radio and it was likely the first thing that triggered my love for electronic music. Many years later I heard it again and figured out who and what it was. Absolutely seminal tune and band.
